Rooftop Brew Co was founded in 2012 and opened to the public in 2013. We started as a one-barrel nano-brewery — just two kegs per brew — in a garage just off Nickerson Street in north Queen Anne.
Friends Craig, Jess, Parker, Angela and Tyson worked second shift after their day jobs to build, brew and tend bar. T-shirts reading "I drink beer in the alley behind the 7-Eleven" were an accurate description of our scrappy start.
An actual rooftop
After enough time proving the concept behind the 7-Eleven, we put in a 15-barrel brewhouse about a mile west of the garage — and built a tasting room on the roof of the brewery warehouse. Concept fully realized.
We ran that spot for nearly a decade, growing from 80 to 2,500 barrels a year, with kegs and cans going from Olympia to Everett. Our beers kept winning Washington awards, and the rooftop kept landing on "best of" lists. We were rolling.
The fire
In 2024, a fire devastated our home on Nickerson. Rooftop's survival was not a guarantee. We didn't know what would come next.
What came next
What came next was Maritime Pacific Brewing. In April 2025, Rooftop acquired Maritime and merged operations, preserving both brands. We run the Jolly Roger Taproom in Ballard, keeping Maritime's beers on tap and its 35-year legacy alive. At a moment when the future of two beloved breweries was uncertain, both are thriving as one.
We also brought the Rooftop beers back, pouring the ones our regulars missed at the Jolly Roger and beyond. With a second location coming to Richmond Beach in spring 2027, we're just getting started.
